Nearly 200,000 in North Carolina, West Virginia and Virginia don’t have power because of the weekend snowstorm. Driving is still treacherous in some spots. And kids in Philadelphia and Baltimore, as well as other cities, have a snow day today.
TOKYO (AP) Iran’s top nuclear negotiator is calling for all countries to get rid of their nuclear weapons, but Saeed Jalili also says countries have the right to develop nuclear energy. Jalili insists that Iran’s nuclear program is for civilian purposes only.
JERUSALEM (AP) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his top ministers are debating whether to trade 1,000 Palestinian prisoners for an Israeli soldier. Sgt. Gilad Schalit (gee-LAHD’ shah-LEET’) was abducted by militants connected to Hamas more than three years ago. Netanyahu may have his full Cabinet make the decision.
TULSA, Okla. (AP) A public memorial service is scheduled for today for TV evangelist Oral Roberts. The service will be held at Oral Roberts University, the Tulsa, Oklahoma school Roberts founded in 1963. He died last week at 91.
LOS ANGELES (AP) She gained fame in such movies as “8 Mile,” ”Just Married” and “Clueless,” and she was only 32. Actress Brittany Murphy died Sunday morning after she apparently collapsed in her Los Angeles home. Officials say she apparently died of natural causes, but police are investigating.
