How long does art last?

Art can stand the test of time, right? Well, if we’re talking about the Mona Lisa, then the answer is probably yes. Thanks to careful handling and continued maintenance, Da Vinci’s masterpiece will probably be with us for centuries. But not all art is permanent. The Japanese, for isntance, believe beauty and impermanence are inextricably linked, which is why the fleeting beauty of fireworks and cherry blossoms is so beloved.
This “sand dancer” doesn’t care for the shelf life of his art or the number of people who witness it because, in his mind, the physical form of the art is secondary to the longer-lasting spiritual form.
