Austrian psychiatrist Alfred Adler was the first scientist to conclude that birth order affects personality. The consensus? The eldest is a people-pleasing, over-achieving perfectionist; the middle child never feels as if he or she belongs and spends their life trying to get noticed; the youngest is forever the spoiled-rotten ‘baby’ of the family. Load of crock? Or grains of truth?
