Listen, I think Mariah Carey did a wonderful job in Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire. As a mustachioed social worker who doesn’t believe in make-up or showering, it was convincing and nothing short of strong. It reminded me of Cameron Diaz in Being John Malkovich and Charlize Theron in Monster. And frankly, if it wasn’t for Mo’Nique and Paula Patton’s performances, she might be getting a bit more award consideration in the supporting actress column.

Mariah Carey is known for being many things, but not usually an actress. Which is why it was so special when she received a much-deserved “Breakthrough Actress of the Year” award for her role in Precious at the Palm Springs Film Festival Awards Gala last night. Only thing is, Mariah Carey was drunk. Or so it seems. She seems a bit too happy, relaxed, and slurry-speeched for someone on the straight and narrow. Check out the video below.

NEW YORK (AFP) –
Crowds watched by a huge number of police began to gather Thursday at New York’s Times Square ahead of the traditional midnight drop of the New Year crystal ball.
Revelers shrugged off forecasts of snow and rain to attend the massive annual gathering in the heart of Manhattan.
The descent of the multi-colored crystal ball was to mark the final moments of 2009 in a more-than-century-old tradition before a ton of confetti showered on the crowd ushering in 2010.
