The Virginia National Guard has been authorized to bring up to 400 Soldiers on state active duty in order to assist state and local agencies in response to expected severe winter weather across the state.

Gov. Timothy M. Kaine declared a state of emergency for Virginia ahead of the nor’easter that weather experts say could bring significant snow accumulation across the state, and the authorization for bringing soldiers on state active duty was part of the declaration.
