Sen. Dodd to retire, sources tell CNN (CNN)

(CNN) — Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Connecticut, plans to announce his retirement, two sources close to the lawmaker told CNN.

A news conference is planned for Wednesday to announce the decision, one of the sources said.

Dodd, 65, had been winning congressional elections in his state since 1974, but he’s recently been considered one of the most vulnerable Democrats seeking re-election in 2010.

Tip leads to arrest in Thanksgiving slayings (CNN)

(CNN) — A tip from a television viewer led to the arrest of a Florida man accused of killing four of his family members on Thanksgiving Day, authorities said early Sunday.

Paul M. Merhige is accused of fatally shooting his twin sisters, a 6-year-old cousin and a 79-year-old aunt at a family home in Jupiter, Florida, on November 26. One of his sisters was pregnant.

Authorities say Merhige also wounded two other family members.
