Popular top 10 mlb shortstops
The shortstop position has become one of the most important in fantasy baseball during the past couple of years. While we have seen a large number of players started across the league because of their defense, the modern-day shortstop can play great defense and be an incredible player with a bat in their hand. Which shortstops are the 10 best to draft for the 2012 Major League Baseball season?
1. Jose Reyes, Miami Marlins
The new face of the Marlins franchise will be hoping to achieve the same success he saw with the New York Mets, just without the inconsistencies and injury problems. He is one of the best fantasy players in the league and should be an early first-round pick, so anyone picking after the sixth spot this season should just hope to get him next year.
2. Troy Tulowitzki, Colorado Rockies
During the past three seasons, Tulowitzki has been one of the best fantasy options at the shortstop position. Much like with Reyes, his biggest problem is staying on the field, but when he gets there, there are few better. Add in his power and the thin air of Colorado and he is an easy selection on draft day.
3. Asdrubal Cabrera, Cleveland Indians
When Cabrera’s 2010 season was cut short by injury, he was one his way to being known as one of the best shortstops in the American League. In 2011, he continued his climb to the top, hitting .273 with 25 home runs and 92 RBIs.
4. Starlin Castro, Chicago Cubs
Castro will be entering his third season in the league and after seeing much improvement in 2011 compared to his rookie season, Castro seems to be one of the best. He hit .307 a year ago with 10 home runs, nine triples, 36 doubles and 66 RBIs, all of which are improvements to his numbers as a rookie.
5. Hanley Ramirez, Miami Marlins
Despite being one of the biggest busts of 2011 and the addition of Reyes, Ramirez is one of the top players to select this season. He hit just .243 with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs a year ago, but is a career .306 hitter that averaged nearly 25 home runs a season before 2011.
6. Jimmy Rollins, Philadelphia Phillies
7. Elvis Andrus, Texas Rangers
8. Jhonny Peralta, Detroit Tigers
9. J.J. Hardy, Baltimore Orioles
10. Alexei Ramirez, Chicago White Sox
